September 11, 2001 Remembered

Mary Lou Carpenter-Bjorkman has released the following information about the planning and preparation for a 9/11 Memorial to be performed by area choirs and individuals to remember those who died in the terrorist attacks ten years ago.

Our concert is on Sunday, September 11, at 3:30 P.M., at St. Mary’s Church in Oswego and we have been asked to also perform the concert at St. Mary’s Church in Baldwinsville at 7:30 that evening in another Memorial which will be preceded by a pot luck dinner.  More details on that as things are ironed out. I can think of no better way to remember and honor the day than to sing a Memorial not once, but twice!

Ryan Schaffer will be accompanying on the organ, and a few other instrumentalists may be added. So far we have about 40 singers committed: please pass the word along to other singers and fellow choir members you may know.

Rehearsals will be held on Thursday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30, in the fellowship hall at the Minetto United Methodist Church at the corner of State Route 48 and County Route 8. For those who may not be able to make that, and have their mornings free, we will have an additional rehearsal on Tuesday mornings at 9:15 A.M., in the same place. Come to either rehearsal, or both.

A dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday, September 10, in the morning if the church is available. Our dress will be black “bottoms” and white “tops”.

In addition to the Requiem, we will be singing four other songs: America, the Beautiful, Take Care of This House and 2 others to be determined.

Please spread the word: it would be wonderful to have at least 50 singers. We are almost there now!

If you already know the piece well, only two rehearsals will be asked of you: the last rehearsal and dress rehearsal. Please notify me of your intention to sing, so  we will have enough music available.
